Student Art Contest and Exhibition

This year, in recognition of Imagine a Day Without Water (a day of action held each year in October), Lakeway Municipal Utility District (LMUD) hosted an art contest open to all Lake Travis Independent School District (LTISD) students as well as local private or homeschool students in kindergarten through 6th grade. The creative, thought-provoking entries were on display at The Hive Gallery in the Hill Country Galleria on Friday, Nov. 15 from 5pm – 6pm. We encouraged the community to come support these local artists and learn more about the value of water. Invitations were also extended to the entrants of our 2022 essay contest since the exhibit included excerpts from their entries as well as the full winning essays. All entries were also submitted to for a chance to have artwork in a state-wide 2025 calendar sponsored by The Water Environment Association of Texas (WEAT) and the Texas American Water Works Association (TAWWA).

ART CONTEST THEME:
How are you water wise?

What does it mean to be water wise? Pay attention to how much water you and your family use during the day – when are you using the most water and how can you use less of it? Protecting our water supply (Lake Travis) from contamination is also important!

LMUD Contest Winners:

  • Original Idea Award: Rockwell H., 6th grade “I believe that it is important to be water wise because we have a limited supply and we could become careless and pollute the water. For example, people throwing cans in the water. And watering our grass could also results in loss of a lot of water. Leaving a faucet running can waste gallons within minutes. We must be water wise so that all people can have water that is purified.”
  • Best Use of Color Award: Florence G., 5th grade “In my art scene I wanted to express ‘Conserve water. Conserve nature. Everything starts there.’ Because conserving water helps the world.”
  • Most Inspiring Award: Andi A., 4th grade “It is important to be waterwise because someday we might run out of clean water.”
Original Idea Award: Rockwell H., 6th grade, Bee Cave Middle School
Best Use of Color Award: Florence G., 5th grade, Lakeway Elementary
Most Inspiring Award: Andi A., 4th grade, Rough Hollow Elementary
