Updated Watering Restrictions – Stage 1 in Effect

It is with a heavy hearts that we celebrate the recent rainfall in Central Texas. While we are thankful to have a nearly-full Lake Travis again, our hearts and prayers continue to go out to all who have been adversely affected by the recent floods and our gratitude extends to all of those who continue to come to their aid. Please see our 4th of July 2025 Weekend Flood Update here.

With our two reservoirs nearly full (Lake Buchanan is currently at 100% full and Lake Travis is currently at 89% capacity, according to LCRA’s River Operations Report) watering restrictions have been adjusted:

Automatic irrigation is now at the maximum allowance of two-days per week on assigned days, based on the last digit of your address. No irrigation is allowed between 10am and 7pm.

For more details about current watering restrictions, please visit www.lakewaymud.org/customers/irrigation-schedule.

This is a welcome change! The last time Lake Travis was full was July 2019. 2023 is when the lake dropped to lowest level on record, which was 34% and LMUD customers have been on 1-day irrigation restrictions since September 2023. BUT, we’d like to remind you that water conservation should remain a year-round effort. Central Texas has a long history of persistent drought conditions, occasionally interrupted by short periods of intense rain. When we do receive rain, it’s important to make the most of it by using water wisely and helping our landscapes retain moisture for as long as possible.

With irrigation being the main use of potable water in our area, we encourage you to stop by our office this coming Monday: July 21 from 2pm – 3pm for our introductory Gardening Club event. Each month, these educational, hands-on opportunities facilitated by local experts can help you transform your yard using native and adaptive plants. Stephanie Threinen, our public information liaison, will also be on hand to answer individual questions about household water use, rebates, and other resources available to LMUD customers.

The Beauty and Ease of Growing Cowpen Daisies
Presenter: Leah Crenwelge
Cowpen daisies (Verbesina encelioides) are native yellow-flowered annuals, also known as Golden Crownbeard. They are known for their cheerful, daisy-like blooms, drought tolerance and their ability to thrive in almost any soil. These plants are a great source of nectar for pollinators, particularly butterflies and bees, and are easy to grow. Join me to learn more about this wonderful native that deserves to be planted in every yard. Free plants will be available! For more information, visit lakewaymud.org/update/monthly-garden-club-events.

Thank you for doing your part to conserve water and support a sustainable future for our region.
