Happy December 2025, Valued Customer!
We have a few updates for you:
Reminder: Winter Averaging in Effect

Did you know that while your water use is metered, your wastewater is not? To calculate wastewater charges, Lakeway MUD uses a method called Winter Averaging, which takes place each year from November through February. Because outdoor watering is minimal during these colder months, this period gives the best snapshot of how much water is used indoors — and therefore sent to our treatment plant for processing. Your wastewater rate for the next year, starting on your December bill, is based on your lower-use bill cycle (Nov.& Dec. or Jan.& Feb.) during this timeframe. TIP: any water use you can minimize during this timeframe can help reduce your wastewater costs for the following 12-months. Winter Averaging applies only to wastewater; your potable water charges will continue to vary each billing cycle based on actual usage. Join Us: Cocoa and Seed Sorting Social, Mon. Dec. 15, 2pm

As many of you know, we have a FREE seed library at our admin office, but it takes many hands to sort these seeds into small packets. Let’s enjoy each other’s company with a cup of hot cocoa as we sort and pack a variety of seeds, from vegetables and herbs to native plants and flowers. This is a hands-on event, suitable for all ages and experience levels. Preparing Your Pipes for Winter Weather

As the weather gets colder, we should all be thinking about how to keep our plumbing system safe. We have several helpful tips on our website:
- Preparing Your Pipes for Winter Weather: Taking measures to keep your pipes warm can save you the headache and cost of dealing with burst pipes. Burst pipes are one of the most common causes of property damage during frigid weather and can cause thousands of dollars in water damage. Read more: lakewaymud.org/update/preparing-your-pipes-for-winter-weather.
- How to Shut Off Your Water: In emergency as well as non-emergency situations, knowing where and how to shut off your home’s water supply is as important as knowing how and where to turn-off or reset an electric breaker. Read more: lakewaymud.org/update/how-to-shut-off-your-water.
- Tips for Thawing Frozen Pipes: The first step you need to take is to shut off your water at the main shutoff valve, usually located at your water meter somewhere near the street, and open (turn on) all of your faucets (inside and outside). This step is very important because what causes burst pipes is the build up of pressure in the lines; opening the faucets will help release that pressure once the pipes thaw. Thank you for being a Santa’s Helper!

Our community really showed their generosity during this year’s toy drive! A HUGE thank you to everyone who dropped off new, unwrapped toys at the LMUD Admin office or one of the many supporting businesses during LT Lov’s annual Green Santa toy drive. You truly help bring a smile to local youth this holiday season. Now the elves are busy collecting the donations, sorting, and packing boxes for local families to pick up. We wish you and yours a festive holiday season!
